How can eye makeup be done to make eyes look for awake and bigger?

I don't have small eyes, they are medium - brown. I am fair skinned with brownish blonde hair. I read articles about using white eyeliner or minimal liner to make eyes look bigger. However, with minimal eye liner, I look very tired. It seems that the only way to make them look awake and bigger is with heavy liner on the top and medium smudged on the bottom. Anyone have any ideas that I can try on how to make them look more awake, but with a more natural look? I hate having to use so much liner. Even other people comment on how tired I look if I use less liner. blahHow can eye makeup be done to make eyes look for awake and bigger?

There are certain videos on youtube that can show you how to solve that problem. But i've also heard that white eyeliner can help
